Going On a Cruise Vacation This Holiday Season?

Posted on Posted in general

The month of December brings with it many changes including a change in topics of discussion. Already talk of Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations has begun. Millions of Americans will be celebrating the holiday season in their own special way. Some will spend it at home with family and loved ones. Others will celebrate it in another country. Some will take a holiday cruise.

When it comes to cruises, special considerations are required. Unlike air travel that lasts mere hours, cruises last for days and weeks. Passengers on board need to have everything they need to ensure their time is properly spent and any needs that might arise are taken care of either by themselves or by the cruiser liner. With that being said, there are certain things passengers can't pack for themselves. This is where companies that provide special needs services truly shine.

These companies in the very basic sense are your very own concierge service that provides access to vital equipment during a cruise. Almost all of these items are vital in the sense they cater to a specific need medical or otherwise. These items include

On-board Transport

Don't get on a cruise unless they offer these! Unless of course you love walking for miles. A cruise ship by all means won't extend that long however the many decks and the passages within it can seemingly go on forever. To cover that much terrain will require the use of mobility scooters and wheelchairs, both of which should be readily available on the cruise liner. For people who have trouble walking or those with a medical condition that requires those to sit and not stand for extended hours will definitely benefits from this feature.

Facilities for Children and Toddlers

Just because you have a toddler doesn't mean you can't get on a cruise vacation. Cribs are a welcome sight for most vacationers going on a cruise. They provide a nice safe spot for the little ones. They are sturdily built and well balanced so as to not lose balance and fall. Now everyone can enjoy a cruise vacation and won't have to put it off until the kids have grown some!

Oxygen Tanks

The sea air is not for everyone. Far from the pollution effects of land air, the ocean air can be a pleasant and at times intense experience for some; thus requiring them to use oxygen tanks. If not that, travellers who have asthma or any condition that could hinder in their breathing would require the steady of use oxygen masks and tanks. Since they can't be packed in a travel suitcase, cruise liners take the initiative to provide them for their passengers.

If you are going on a cruise, one of the first things to do is to inquire about all the services that it offers. Be sure to consult with a special needs group before making reservations. Knowing what all is offered is a great way to ensure you get to make the most of your …

Vacation Travel Deals Tips – A Few Ideas for Saving on Future Travel Expenses

Posted on Posted in general

Any savvy traveler knows to use comparison shopping websites to find vacation travel deals. It's very easy to combine every leg of a journey online these days, without having to hire a travel agent to search for deals on your behalf.

You can start the planning process by getting organized. Determine your budget, come up with some dates (the more flexible, the better), and make a list of destinations you would like to consider. Find out when the tourist season is for each of the destinations and look for deals during OFF season, when airline and hotels will be a lot cheaper.

Another way to find vacation travel deals is to wait for last minute discounts to pop up. This can be a great way to save if you are not particularly picky about where and when you are going. Many of the leading travel discount sites offer apps and free newsletters that will alert you of all of the best deals daily, weekly, or monthly. You can also use apps to track plane ticket and hotel prices.

Always take advantage of free membership programs, like frequent flyer programs, credit card points, military discounts, student discounts, group discounts, Triple A programs, and so forth. Even if you're not sure if you qualify for any special discount or reward, it's still worth looking into.

If you want to go on a cruise, check into repositioning cruise offers. Since cruise lines move their ships around different regions during the season, there are short periods of time when they offer discounts to tourists. These are referred to as one-way repositioning cruises, and are significantly less than the regular high-season cruise. The only problem with this type of cruise is that your journey will end at another city from where you started out at – in another region of the country or even continent. Because of this, you will have to make sure the one-way airfare back home is worth the discount of the cruise.

Additional Tips for Cheaper Vacation Travel Deals

Wednesdays are typically the cheapest days to fly domestically, followed by Tuesday. Be on the lookout for popup deals right after midnight on Wednesday mornings and just after 3 PM on Tuesdays.

If you will be traveling with family, one of the very first things to look for is a hotel that offers free meals for kids. Also, don't rent a car right at the airport because airport car rental rates tend to cost a lot more than the rates of off-airport rental offices – even if it's the same company. Book your room at a hotel that is easy to get to from the airport. Some even offer free shuttles back and forth.

When shopping online for vacation travel deals, carefully read over the details so you'll know exactly what the price covers.

You'll be guaranteed to save on your next trip by booking online. Discounts on cruises, all inclusive packages, airline, entertainment, and other travel related expenses are frequently popping …

Southern California Family Vacation Without the Crowds

Posted on Posted in general

If you live in Southern California, you know that summer brings out the crowds-visitors from around the country and around the world .. That means it's hard to go anywhere without running into lots of people and traffic-two main ingredients that makes kids ( and parents) cranky.

One place that seems to have held on to its laid-back California charm and has lots of kid-friendly fun is Ventura, particularly the three cities known as VenturaCountyWest (Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura). Located up the 101 Freeway north from Los Angeles, VenturaCountyWest features uncrowded beaches (with free parking), ocean adventures and tons of easy-to-get-to kids' summer activities. Here are some to check out.

Channel Islands National Park

Take a tour boat to the Channel Islands National Park out of either Ventura or Channel Islands (Oxnard) harbors. The islands are only 11 miles off the Ventura County coast. On the way, you can see dolphins, seals, pelicans and other wildlife. Hikes, overnight stays, kayaking are all available once arriving on shore. Tours are booked through Island Packers, http://www.islandpackers.com/ .

Ventura Harbor Village

Ventura Harbor Village contains an arcade featuring an old-fashioned indoor carousel, arcade and a candy shop with more than 20 varieties of fudge (made fresh daily). Families can rent paddle and electric boats to tour the quiet harbor channels. Back on shore, plan on eating at one of the casual harbor side restaurants featuring freshly caught seafood. http://www.venturaharborvillage.com .

Ventura County Fairgrounds' Raceway

"Midget" cars, motorcycles and all sorts of other racing vehicles take to the track almost every weekend at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura. It's all good fun as you cheer on your favorite driver.

Gull Wings Children's Museum

This children's museum in Oxnard is very unassuming from the outside, but once inside, the eight and under set will have so much to do and see that they won't know where to begin. They can dress up as firefighters, doctors or pretend they are astronauts landing on the moon in an apollo spacecraft. There are snakes to hold, treasure to find in a geological dig and plenty of Legos to build whatever they wish. Kids can try their hand at rock wall climbing or let their imaginations go while in the driver's seat of an actual car.

Sky High Sports

You won't find a big sign announcing Sky High Sports Camarillo from the freeway. It's in an industrial park-it has to be-the place is huge. It's filled with trampolines with super padded floors and walls. Kids can play trampoline dodge ball and other organized games or … just jump. All under supervision. Sky High also has laser tag. Kids are sure to come out sweaty and tired-a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Ski Vacation Tips: Go Green to Prevent Them From Melting

Posted on Posted in general

Planning on a ski vacation this year? Why not consider skiing green this time. With Earth getting hotter than usual due to global warming, ski resorts are mostly affected by this change. At present, they are now thinking of ways on how they can help to mitigate the problem.

The good news is, you too can do something to help reduce this problem. There are various ways that you can do to make it happen. You may think that your individual efforts aren't enough to make a difference, but they do! So, here are some eco-friendly tips that you can do to help preserve our environment.

Ride smart for a greener trip

Instead of flying to other places for your ski trip, travel to ski resorts closer to your home. The good thing about this is you can pack other things like a cooler and enjoy your own food, drinks and snacks.

Also, if your friends and coworkers share the same interest as you do, you can carpool with them. But if you insist on flying to other destinations, you can also ask if the resort offers a shuttle service to and from the airport. This will allow you to save on gas instead of renting a car.

Choose greener ski resorts

Resorts are more aware now of the impacts of climate change and are now inclined towards pursuing a greener environment. In order to make greener choices, you may ask questions before you make a reservation. You can ask them questions such as:

What do they recycle?

Do they have a water conservation program?

Are their cleaning products eco-friendly?

Do their machines that help clear trails use bio-fuel?

Do they use wind power for energy needs?

Do they offer a shuttle service to and from the airport?

This will help them realize that their efforts in being an eco-friendly resort, really do matters. Also, compliment them on their efforts and encourage them to continue to maintain an eco-friendly facility.

Cross-country skiing? Why not!

You may also consider cross-country skiing this year. This can be done in many "local" places depending on the snowfall in your area. The good thing is, cross-country skiing burns more calories than resources, compared to downhill skiing.

Respect the environment

Every time tourists flock to ski resorts, it's the environment that suffers due to the irresponsibility of the people. So be responsible with your trash every time you visit any ski resorts. Don't throw your garbage everywhere. Use biodegradable products and reduce the use of plastic bags. Follow proper segregation and as much as possible, recycle.

With these simple tips, you will not only enjoy your ski vacation, you'll also be able to help the planet from further devastation. So think green, go green, and support a greener ski vacation. Let's continue to take care of this planet we call home.

Vacation Rental Etiquette

Posted on Posted in general

So, you've decided to stay at a privately owned vacation rental home. The travel dates are set, the reservation is made and now you wait, excitedly for your vacation to begin.

But wait, we have always stayed at hotels, so how's this work exactly? Will there be toilet paper provided? What about hand soap, and laundry soap?

It's good that you're asking these questions now, because staying at a privately owned rental rental home is significantly different than staying at a hotel. What you give up in convenience, you gain in amenities and freedom.

Most vacation rental home owners, make sure the basics are there for your arrival, but remember, this is the next best thing to staying in your own home, and who provides the supplies there? You do, of course!

No owner wants their guests to arrive needing to use the restroom, only to find there are no restroom supplies available. But, they're not going to provide supplies for your entire stay, either.

So, you should plan on that, and budget for that. One of the first things you will want to do, upon your arrival, is to look around to see what is there, and make a list of what you need.

Most likely you'll be surprised to find food and other supplies that have been left by either the vacation rental home owner or previous guests. The rule of thumb is, what you find is yours to use.

It's also normal to find multiples of some food supplies. Everybody has their own comfort level, and preferences. Don't be surprised if you find a couple jars of peanut butter, and other such supplies. Again, you're welcome to use them, but if that makes you uncomfortable, just add that item to your shopping list.

Generally the cleaning crew has been instructed to remove anything that can spoil or attract unwanted critters. While we're on this subject, when you leave try to dispose of anything that will spoil, or will attract bugs.

You may also find non-food items such as bar soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, dish soap, sun block, etc. You are welcome to use them, but they may not be your brand or whatever. So, just leave them for the next guests.

Once you've looked around and taken an inventory, make a grocery list and go shopping. You'll want to stock up for your stay and you should plan to replace anything you use. You certainly don't want to leave the property without essential items like toilet paper and soap.

It's kind of a "pay-it-forward" philosophy. The idea being if you leave it well stock for the next guest, they'll do the same for the guests after them, etc. Hopefully, you'll benefit the next time you stay at a privately owned vacation rental, and the home will be well stocked for you, upon your arrival.

Always remember you are staying at somebody's home. Yes, you're paying rent and yes it's your right to use it, but use it …

Vacation Rental Accidents: What to Do

Posted on Posted in general

Spring break is just around the corner, and that means that a lot of people might be itching to escape to a new place. It may also mean that you are itching to leave Florida and head to a new destination in order to avoid the spring break madness. Renting an apartment away from home on a website like AirBnB can be a lot of fun, and it can also open up many new horizons – you will, after all, get to see what it's like to really live as a local.

But what happens when an accident occurs on a rental property? Who do you call and who is to blame? While the laws in every state are different, there are some basic things that you should do right away if you are injured on a property that is not your own.

We'll also cover what you should do if you rent out your property and someone becomes injured while staying in your home.

Before you book any vacation rental, take a close look at this!

Renting to Strangers

When you rent out a home to a stranger, you should be aware that there is always a possibility that someone might get hurt while staying at that location. If someone that is renting from you calls and tells you that they have become hurt, here are the steps that you should take right away.

  1. Since you are not at the location at the time of the accident, make sure that the injured person visits with a reputable doctor right away. Ask to see that report.
  1. If you have a friend or family member in the area, ask that person to visit the property when the accident happens, and ask that person to take as many photos as possible.
  1. Make sure that the injured person files an accident report at the hospital or with the police. This way, you can be sure that what happened has been accurate documented.
  1. Make your way back to the property as soon as possible – and make sure to review your insurance policy. You may also want to look into any injury policies that may be part of the service you used.

Following the steps above is important, but there are also some things that you should absolutely not do including:

  1. Do not take the person's word and send or wire money to cover the cost of injuries
  1. Make sure that the doctor the person visits with is reputable – there are a lot of scams out there!
  1. Never alter the scene of an accident, no matter what.
  1. Do not lie and say that you were on the property when you were not. The truth always catches up to you!

Injured When Staying At Someone's Home

So what do you do if you've rented a gorgeous property, and you become injured? Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the hospital right away, so that your injuries are documented.
  2. Take photos of the area where you fell
